William Derwood Fowler was born on the 26th of September, 1947, in Sayre, Oklahoma to Alford George Fowler and Ruby Lee Washburn Fowler. At the age of 15, he started working for the Spruiell Drilling Company where he was employed for 45 years. He spent most of those years as a driller in the oil business, and was known by many people throughout out the area.
Derwood married the love of his life, Sherry Lyles, on the 19th of February, 1972, in Highland, Illinois. They were blessed with two sons, Tommy Wayne and James. Derwood is survived by his wife of 36 years, Sherry, of Iowa Park, TX; son and daughter-in-law, Tommy Wayne and Sheri Fowler of Elk City, OK; son James, of Iowa Park, TX; grandsons, Trever and Tyler Fowler; brother and sister-in-law Alfred Leon and Glenna Fowler of Leedey, OK; brother and sister-in-law Ernest and Brenda Fowler of Iowa Park, TX; brother, Jerry Fowler of Wichita Falls, TX; and sisters, Nona Duke and Jeanie Black, both of Cordell, OK. He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Emma Jean Fowler.
Visitation will be from 3:00PM to 5:00PM on Sunday, March 22, 2009 at the Dutton Funeral Home Chapel in Iowa Park, Texas. His service will be held at 2:00PM on Monday, March 23, 2009, at the First Christian Church of Iowa Park, TX, with Rev. Gary House, and also Rev. John Hare of the Pacific Avenue Baptist Church of Iowa Park, TX officiating. Burial will follow in Highland Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Dutton Funeral Home.
