Ruth was born in Alpena, S.D. She grew up in a large family on a farm in South Dakota. She moved to Oregon with her mother and sister in 1938. She married John H. Benedict in Corvallis on Sept. 6, 1939.
She was a member of the First Conservative Baptist Church in Corvallis. She enjoyed sewing, knitting, playing cards and crossword puzzles.
Survivors include her husband, John of Albany; sons Dan of Philomath and Steve of Harrisburg; daughters Jeanette Goeke of Albany and Nancy Little of Roseburg; 10 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
A private graveside service will be Friday at Locke Cemetery north of Corvallis. A public memorial service will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Quail Run Assisted Living in Albany. Chaplain Eric Martin will officiate.
