Funeral services for James Richard Lackey, 21, of 6027 Tremont, who was killed in an auto accident Saturday near Orange, Orange Co., will be held at 11:30 a.m. Wednesday in the Sparkman/Hillcrest Funeral Chapel, 10501 Garland Rd. Burial will be in Grove Hill Memorial Park.
Investigating officers said Lackey was struck in the head by steel piping supporting a mesh fence struck by the car in which he was riding. The accident occurred on IH 10 near Orange.
The driver, Dwayne Gill, 20, of Groves, Jefferson Co., was charged with murder by auto and was released on $2,000 bond Saturday night.
Lackey was a 1966 honor graduate of Woodrow Wilson High and a senior predental major at Stephen F. Austin State Univ. He was a member of East Dallas Christian Church.
Survivors include: parents, Mr. & Mrs. C.J. Lakey of Dallas; two brothers, Bill Lackey of Dallas and John Lackey of Unalakleet, Alaska; and grandparents Mrs. Augusta Ruhland of Dallas and Mr. & Mrs. C.J. Lakery of Hico.
