Dettmarh Glenn Shaner

1936 - 2009

Dettmarh Glenn Shaner, 73, of Parma, died April 13, 2009, in a Caldwell care center. Glenn, the 10th of 11 children, was born Feb. 15, 1936, at Ainsworth, Neb., to Howard Poe Shaner and Mamie Pearl Tuttle. He joined the Marines in 1955, achieving a medal of good conduct and rank of Sergeant prior to his discharge in 1959.

Glenn met Vera Webrand in 1960 and they were later married in Nevada. The couple had two sons, Howard Glenn and Wesley Brian. After the military, Glenn worked with his brother doing bridge construction and was later employed with Parma Furniture. He loved fishing, hunting, camping, gardening, playing cards, dancing, making polished rock jewelry, and spending time with his family.

Glenn is survived by his wife, Vera; son, Howard and grandsons Brenton Lee and Ambrose Lee; son, Wesley and granddaughter Jennifer Lynn; brothers, Kenneth and Donald Shaner; and sisters, Evelyn Ensley, Betty Miller, Lila Ferreyra, Dorthy Breshears, and Patsy Taylor. He was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters, and a brother. Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Friday, April 24, at the Idaho State Veterans Cemetery, Boise, directed by Nampa Funeral Home, Yraguen Chapel.

A memorial gathering will be at 1 p.m. Saturday, May 2, at the Senior Center in Parma.
