Obituary of Augusta nee Ahrens Meyer
Mother of John Henry Meyer
She died March 20, 1939, in Deshler, Nebraska.

Obituary newspaper clipping found in the Bible of Helen Meyer Grupe. Unknown which paper published
this but it may have been a Superior paper -- the first paragraph lists the two sons living in Superior.
Or it may have been the Deshler Rustler.
Mrs. Meyer Taken After Short Illness

The death of Mrs. Augusta Meyer of Deshler occurred Monday, following an illness of
three weeks duration. She was the mother of Ernst and Henry Meyer of Superior.

Services are being held this afternoon (Thursday) from the home and also from the
Lutheran Church in Deshler and burial will be made in the Edgar cemetery.
Mrs. Meyer was 74 years and 4 months of age.

She was the daughter of William and Karoline Ahrens and was born in a log cabin at
State Center, Iowa, November 20, 1864. When she was fifteen years old the family
came to Nebraska in a covered wagon and homesteaded northwest of Deshler.

She was married to Ernst Meyer at Kiowa, Nebr., on July 24, 1883. They moved to
Minneapolis, Minn., where they lived for a short time, returning to Oak in 1887. Mr. Meyer,
who died in Oak, April 20, 1923, owned flour mills at Oak and Superior and was organizer
of the Meyer hydro electric power system, which served ten towns in the Oak vicinity.

Mrs. Meyer moved to Deshler in 1929, and has lived in her home there since. Surviving her are her six children, Emma, now Mrs. Louis Grosshans of Holyoke, Colo., Ernst Meyer of Superior, Elizabeth, now Mrs. Julius Hoffman of Oak, John Meyer of Oak,

A daughter Suzanna, died in infancy.

Also surviving are nineteen grandchildren, five

Contributed by Lonna Beth Kral, grandaughter of Frances and John Meyer.
