"Beverley Gilchrist Norrie Holmes, 81, of Palmetto, FL, passed away peacefully with family at her side, October 25, 2009. Born May 15, 1928 in Toronto, Canada she moved to this area in 1939. She met Ernest Victor Holmes Jr. when he was playing Boogie Woogie on the piano at Manatee High School. On August 18, 1947 they married in Toronto. He preceded her in death on October 12, 1996 and is buried in Arlington Cemetery. Being an Army wife, she moved around the country often, even Germany. After Vic's retirement in 1974 they moved back to FL, settling on Snead Island, next door to Bev's parents, Ernest & Dorothy Norrie. She and Vic enjoyed many a cruise to different ports of call all over the world. She was a former member of the Palmetto Garden Club where she became a Flower Show Judge and Master Gardener. She later joined Manatee River Garden Club. She spent countless hours gardening at her home, which she designed. She enjoyed many hobbies during her life; drawing, photography, painting, ceramics, stain glass and especially sewing. ...... A memorial service will be held at Arlington Cemetery, May 2010."
