DURHAM - Carolyn Utley Baker born March 20,1939,went home to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Friday, January 22, 2010 after a long battle with cancer. "Precious in the sight of the Lord is the death of his saints." Psalm 116:15 Carolyn was a native of Durham and the daughter of the late Lewis and Ruth Alford Utley. She graduated in the class of 1957 at Durham High School. She went to Radiology school at Duke University Medical Center where she also was employed in the Department of Gastroenterology for 28 years. Her motto was "to have a friend was to be a friend" (Prov.18:24) She truly had many friends that showed their love for her - because she was so easy to love.(Prov.17:17a) Carolyn loved the Lord, serving Him and she cherished her family. She enjoyed shopping, traveling and entertaining. She was a faithful member of Durham Memorial Baptist Church and an active member of the Ruth Gleaners Sunday School Class which had been a blessing to her for many years. She is survived by her husband, Hazel Baker of 51 years. A son, Bob Baker(Karen)of Mebane and a daughter, Amy Baker of Creedmoor. Grandchildren, Brandon & Stacy Baker of Durham; step-granddaughter, Heather Blackburn of Mebane. One sister, Shirley Hursey (Otho)of Raleigh and one brother, Steve Utley of Durham. Nine nephews and seven nieces. The family would ike to thank Duke Hospice for their love and care of Carolyn during her illness.

Funeral services will be held on Monday at 2 p.m. at Durham Memorial Baptist Church, officiated by Pastor Ed Dentor and Pastor Chris Moore. Entombment will be in Oak Grove Memorial Gardens Mausoleum. Pallbearers will be Benny Fields, Chris Utley, David Utley, Van Hursey, Don Hursey, Brandon Baker, Keny Phills and Joey Guarglia.

The family will receive friends on Sunday from 6 to 8 p.m. at Hudson Funeral Home.

Flowers are acceptable or donations may be made to Durham Memorial Baptist Church Building Fund, 133 Robbins Road, Durham, N.C. 27703.
