GAINESVILLE, Fla. — Mrs. Betty Osborne Pippin, 85, of Gainesville, Fla., formerly of Switzer, passed away Thursday, January 21, 2010, at the E.T. York Hospice House following a long illness.

Born December 19, 1924, in Logan, she was a daughter of Noll and Nola Borders Osborne. Also preceding her in death was her husband, Robert G. "Bob" Pippin, and her sister, Barbara "Bobbie" Osborne.

Betty was married to Robert G. "Bob" Pippin who had a career in the military. She was able to travel extensively with him. They lived for several years in Germany and traveled to the United Kingdom and throughout Europe while making their home in Frankfurt. When she and Bob returned to the U.S., they lived in San Antonio, Texas, until he retired and they then moved to Marianna, Fla. In 2002, she moved to Gainesville to live with her cousin, Nancy Smith. In addition to traveling, she tirelessly researched the genealogies of the Borders, Osborne and Steele families. Her other hobbies were making beautiful handmade quilts and stained glass everything.

Survivors include her brother, Tunney Osborne and his wife, Ila, of Fountaintown, Ind., and their children Leigh, Paul and David; special cousins, Nancy Steele Smith and her husband Martin of Gainesville, Donnie Steele and his wife, Kay, of Clendenin, and Jane "Tillie" Shell of Hobe Sound, Fla., and special grandchildren Erik of Tampa, Fla. and Scot of Gainesville and Brit and his wife, Andrea, also of Gainesville.

Services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, January 29, at the Honaker Funeral Home with Rev. C. D. Wolford officiating. Burial will be at the Forest Lawn Cemetery in Pecks Mill.

The family will receive friends from 6:30-8:30 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Betty's memory to Haven Hospice, 4200 N. W. 90th Blvd., Gainesville, FL 32606.
