His parents were Mark Theodore Thomas and Anna Louise Abell.

The following, sent to me by Dolores Bohn, is from the Holy Name of Mary Church, Calvary, Ky, 1798-1998 Book; Page 167.

"TRAGEDIES. A tragedy took place in the Calvary area on November 27, 1898. Aloysius (Losh) Thomas was putting wood on the fire at about 9 in the evening when he fell forward on the burning coals. Two daughters were present, but before they could rescue him the flames had dealt a fatal blow. Father McDonald arrived in time to administer the last rites, but when Dr. Kelly arrived at the scene Mr. Thomas had only a few minutes to live. He was subject to epilepsy and it is thought that he was having a seizure when he fell into the fire. His wife, who was ill, was at her father's home when the accident occurred. Their children were Joe S., Theo, Ethel, Henry, Lula, Rob, Ruth (married Robert Thomas Jarboe) and Walter. Note: His wife, the former Mary Ellen Ryan, was later sent to Lakeland Sanatorium where she spent the next 40 years until her death in 1941. This was a double tragedy for the children. The older children cared for the younger ones until they were grown."
