NEWTON - Spain, Jean Paulyne Jean 86, died Tuesday (Jan. 26, 2010) at Asbury Park in Newton. Jean was born on June 3, 1923 on a farm outside Gypsum, KS, the daughter of Lawrence S. and Elmyrah M. Hall Sloop. She graduated from Newton High School in 1943. Jean married D. Dean Bahr on Sept. 28, 1944 in Kansas City, KS, she had one daughter, Dean Ann. Mr. Bahr died in Feb., 1951. She had worked in the meat department for Dillons for over 30 years primarily in Newton but for a few years in the 1980's she worked at the stores in Wichita. Jean was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Newton. Survivors include daughter, Dean Ann Shelton and husband Bob of Wichita; grandchildren, Craig A. Sheffler and wife Nicole of Independence, MO, Brian K. Sheffler and wife Carma of Seguin, TX, Lisa Stinson and husband Marc of Andover, and Leslie Arce of Tempe, AZ; 12 great-grandchildren; several cousins; nieces and nephews; and the 81 Speedway family in Wichita. Memorial graveside services will be held at 2 p.m., Saturday (Jan. 30, 2010) at the Halstead Cemetery in Halstead, KS. Friends may sign the book Friday, 9 a.m. - 5 p.m., and Saturday 9 a.m. - noon at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established with the First United Methodist Church or Harry Hynes Memorial Hospice. Condolences may be left at www.broadwaycolonialfh.com
