Death of J.D. Carpenter

The death of John DeWitt Carpenter, senior member of the well-known firm of Carpenter & Comings, occurred at about 7 o’clock this morning, of paralysis. The deceased had been in failing health for two to three years past but was able to be at his place of business until Sunday last when he was stricken with paralysis. He remained conscious until he died although he was unable to speak.

Mr. Carpenter was born in New Jersey, March 17th, 1812, and within a short time afterwards his family removed to Yates county where he resided at or near Dundee, until 1857, in which year he removed to this village and began the furniture and undertaking business at No. 13 North Aurora street. He had been an official member of the Methodist Episcopal church for nearly fifty years. He was a man of strictest integrity and greatly respected by all who knew him. A widow and three children survive him, Mrs. J.R. Comings, of this village, Mrs. Levi Nichols, of Chicago, and Albert C. Carpenter of Kansas City.

The funeral services will be held from the family residence, No. 60 [?] East Buffalo street, on Saturday at 3 P.M.
