William was the son of Booth and Margaret Norsworthy Malone.

The following was submitted by Barbara Tynes Claiborne:

William George Malone and Sarah Battle moved from Memphis to Tippah County, Mississippi when Northern Mississippi opened up for settling.

Their first two children were born in Tennessee - Sophia Crudup Malone (1837-1875) unmarried and John W. Malone 1838-1871). These were born in Mississippi:

Mary Fletcher Malone (1841-1897) married a Connolly;
William Battle Malone born (1842-1897) married Ella Kate Barbee (they and their son Dr. Wm Battle Malone buried in Memphis),
Juliet G. Malone (1847-1878);
Sarah L. Malone "Sallie" (1851-1935) married Alfred Lee Brevard after the War and is buried in Obion County, Tenn.;
Chloe Malone born Miss. 1857 (haven't searched her or son Samuel Malone, the youngest born 1860 after they moved to Paducah, Kentucky.

After the Civil War started, the entire family in Paducah were banished to Canada because William G. Malone refused to leave his home and was arrested by General Gaines (along with numerous other household heads in Paducah). Their home was bombarded with cannonfire, and Sarah sheltered in the woods with her children. The cannons littered the yard and destroyed a chicken house, but the home was undamaged. General Paine then fined (extorted) the families, and those who refused to pay were given the choice: "go to Hell, go to Africa, or go to Canada." So the families were boarded on a train to Detroit and created quite a wave of sympathy when they arrived. They went on to Windsor where little Sallie remembered being welcomed by the Canadians with mercy. They were feted and cared for until the end of the War.
