Born in Montreal, Quebec, she was a daughter of the late Arthur E. and Catherine P. (Martin) Abbey.
Bernice was a veteran of the Second World War serving with the Women Army Corp. She was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch #19 North Sydney, and of St. Joseph Parish, North Sydney.
She is survived by her half sister Aileen (Jim) Young of South Surrey, BC; also by best friend, Kay McGowan and care givers, Sue and George Lewis, all of North Sydney.
Bernice was predeceased by her husband Henry Wells, sisters, Adele Chartrand, Joan Masanotti; brother, Gilbert Abbey; and half brother Harold Gough.
There will be no visitation by request. A funeral service will be held 10 a.m. Tuesday, February 2, 2010, from the W.J. Dooley Funeral Home chapel, 107 Pleasant St., North Sydney, with Rev. Jim Attwood officiating.
Memorial donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society or St. Joseph Church Improvement Fund.
