WHITE ROCK PIONEER DIES IN SAN FRANCISCO
On Palm Sunday, Mrs. Minnie L. Coughran, widow of William M. Coughran, died in San Francisco after a lingering illness.
She was a native of Savannah, Merced County, but shortly after her birth, Aug. 11, 1876, her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Henry E. McClure, moved to the White Rock district. She attended the White Rock grammar school, and on June 22, 1898 she and William Coughran (himself a native of Pea Ridge) were married on top of White Rock, the now vanished old landmark, which gave the district its name.
Their wedding was attended by some 75 guests, and following an elaborate luncheon served under the big shade trees on the Wesley Helm ranch, they honeymooned in Yosemite Valley.
Mr. Coughran passed away in 1951, and Mrs. Coughran had been in ill health since that time.
She is survived by four nieces and one nephew, was a member of Ivy Chapter No. 27, Order of Eastern Star, Loyal Rebekah Lodge No. 215 and the Golden Wedding Club.
A service of farewell was held in the Gantner, Felder and Kenny Chapel, San Francisco; interment was in the family plot in the Turner-Helm Cemetery near Le Grand.
