Mildred (Millie) Batista was born Dec. 13, 1919 in Strabane, Penn., and passed away after a long illness on Jan. 31, 2010 at the age of 90 in Upland, Calif.
She married Frank Podboy on Oct. 7, 1939 who preceded her in death in 1990. In 1964, they moved from Pennsylvania to Ontario, Calif., where they lived together for 26 years.
Millie was a beautician by trade and a housewife. She enjoyed cooking, sewing, and baking and would provide meals for family whenever they stopped in. She was also an avid music lover, particularly of polkas and waltzes and always seemed to have a song in her heart.
Millie was preceded in death by a brother, Frank Batista of Texas and is survived by two other brothers, Richard Batista of Canonsburg, Penn., and Vince Batista of Tallmadge, Ohio; and two sisters, Sally Holsey of Las Vegas, Nev., and Frances Kosem of Midway, Penn. She is also survived by her two sons, John Podboy (Tracy) of Lake Havasu City, Ariz., and Wes Podboy (Marie) of Rancho Cucamonga; three grandchildren, Kelly Reyna (Ramon) of Rancho Cucamonga, Christopher Podboy (Casey) of Lake Havasu City, Ariz., and Nicholas Podboy of Lake Havasu City, Ariz.; along with three great-great- grandchildren, Ryan and Dylan Reyna and Lily Ann Podboy; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held on Monday, Feb. 8 from 5-8 p.m. with rosary at 6:30 p.m. at Stone Chapel. Mass service will be held on Tuesday, Feb. 9 at 11 a.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church at 877 N. Campus Ave., Upland with interment at Riverside National Cemetery at 1:30 p.m., area #6, on Tuesday. Stone Funeral Home, Upland, in charge of arrangements.
