At the age of one year his family moved to Maxwell, Iowa where they lived for three years. They then moved to Elkhart, Iowa where he attended school graduating with the Class of 1928 in Elkhart. Cecil then farmed near Elkhart for a time before moving to California where he lived for three years. While in California he was united in marriage to Margaret Hicks. To this union, one daughter, Eleanor Faye was born in 1940. Cecil and Margaret were later divorced.
Cecil returned to the Midwest living in Kansas City where he worked several years for the Kansas City Schools. Then in 1953 he moved back to Elkhart.
In 1954 Cecil and Maxine Main were united in marriage on April 4, 1954 in Elkhart. They then made their home in Des Moines where Cecil worked for Solar Aircraft & Continental Western Insurance. In 1974 they retired and moved to Mount Ayr where they spent the rest of their years.
Cecil was a member of the United Methodist Church of Mount Ayr where he was an active member. He also enjoyed woodworking and working in his lawn of which he took great pride.
Cecil was preceded in death by his parents and wife Maxine and in 1996. Also a sister Veda and four brothers. Tracy, Roscoe, Alva and Harley.
Surviving are his daughter Eleanor and husband Wayne Elsberry of Atlantic, Iowa; three granddaughters, Peggy Toft, Sandra Cooper and Julie Stubbs along with nine great grandchildren. A sister Vilda Cory, also sisters-in-law Juanita (Robert) Shaffer, LaViece (Clarence) Barker and Doris Rule; and brothers-in-law, Marvin (Lucille Main, Virgil (Jeannine) Main, Larry (Fran) Main, Lyle (Virginia) Main and Wilbur Kimball. Along with a host of nieces and nephews.
