Pfc. Egbert H. Culler above, son of Mr. and Mrs. Floyd D. Culler of 410 Otteray Drive, High Point, was killed in action in Italy September 21 while serving with the 88th infantry division of the fifth Army, known as the "Kraut Killers". He entered the service September 1943, and took his basic training at Camp Blanding, Florida. He went overseas in February, 1944. Private Culler had been cited by his regiment and awarded the Combat Infantry Badge, for participation in combat in Italy. This decoration is awarded to the infantry soldier who has proved his fighting ability in combat.
Surviving besides his parents are five brothers, Norman, David, Addison and Wayne of High Point, and Troy of Norfolk, Virginia and six sisters, Mrs. J. C. Webster, of Greensboro; Mrs. Stanley Osborne and Miss Shirley Culler of Newport News, Virginia; Mrs. John Trexler of route 3, High Point; Mrs Arvel Kersey of route 4, High Point, and Angela Culler, of High Point. Memorial service will be held Sunday, October 22, at 3 o'clock at the Gospel Tabernacle, High Point.

In World War II Private First Class Egbert Hunter Culler was Killed in Action in Italy while serving with the 349th Regiment 88th Infantry division of Lt General Mark W Clarks Fifth Army know as the Kraut Killers. He was awarded the Purple Heart posthumously. His body was brought back home for re burial November 28, 1948 in Guildford Memorial Gardens Greensboro North Carolina.
