Harold Wesley Porter passed away March 1, 1997.

He was born March 23, 1915 in rural Montgomery County, MO, to Carl Wesley and Beulah Frances Adams Porter.

He attended rural grade school and graduated from Montgomery City High School.

He worked in Southern California as a time keeper for Douglas Air Craft at the beginning of World War II, then enlisted in the Army Air Corps and became the pilot of a B17 Bomber.

He was based in England, and was shot down over Holland returning from his 2nd air raid over Germany.

He was captured and interned in a P.O.W. camp in Germany for 21 months and 3 weeks, and liberated when the allied forces entered Germany.

On returning to Missouri, Harold was baptized into the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, and remained a faithful member the rest of his life.

He was discharged from the Army Air Corps in December of 1945, after returning to So. Calif.

Harold married Lela Cox in the Manti, LDS Temple on June 19, 1946 and were blessed with 10 children, nine of whom are still living.

In 1950, Harold moved his family to a ranch in Placer County, CA.

He served as branch president and as bishop in Lincoln, CA, also as ward and then stake clerk in the Sacramento North Stake, and as a member of the stake high council.

He also served as a member of the board of directors of the Camp Far West Irrigation District, and as a member of the board of the Western Placer Unified School District.

Harold was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, Albert, a son, David, and two little grandsons, Jonathan and Anthony.

Harold is survived by his wife, Lela; five sons and four daughters, Nancy Bailey, New Orleans, LA, Daniel Wesley, Fort Bragg and Raymond Paul, Somerset, CA, Robert Wallace and Alice Best of LaVerkin, and Earl Dean, of Hurricane, and Frances Romero, of Enoch, all in Utah, Michael Edgar, of Puerto Napo, Ecuador, and Mary Vance, of Tacoma, WA.

He is also survived by one brother, Carl Wesley, Jr., of Wellsville, MO; and six sisters, Ruby Mullen, of Santa Monica, Lorene Taylor and Ruth Olson, of Torrance, and Evelyn Coates, of Riverside, in CA, and Helen Adamson, of Sublimity and Bessie Neihoff, of Stayton, OR; also by 39 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held Friday, March 7, 1997 at 10 a.m. in the Lincoln LDS Ward Chapel.

Friends may call at the ward chapel 8:30 to 9:45 prior to services.

Interment will be in the Lincoln Cemetery in Lincoln, CA, under direction of the Price Funeral Home of Citrus Heights, CA.
