Louis 'Sug' Fox

NORTH CARROLLTON - Funeral services for Louis "Sug" Fox, 87, of the New Bethel community in Carroll County, were at 11 a.m. today at North Carrollton Baptist Church.

Mr. Fox died of cancer Saturday, May 26, 2007, at Greenwood Leflore Hospital.

He was retired from Texas Gas Co., where he was employed for 32 years.He was an 8th U.S. Army Air Corps veteran of World War II. He was a member of Carrollton Masonic Lodge No. 36 and North Carrollton Baptist Church, and had been an active deacon at Parkview Baptist Church for over 35 years, where he was known by the children as "The Candy Man." An accomplished mandolin player, he occasionally accompanied the Carroll County Red Hats praise team of which he was an honorary member.

He was preceded in death by a son, Paul Dwayne Fox; his parents, Tom and Helon Fox; and two brothers, B.L. Fox and J.T. Fox.

He is survived by his wife, Oma Rose Ferguson Fox of New Bethel; two daughters, Shirley Fox Rush of Olive Branch and Shelda Fox Muirhead of Maggie Valley, N.C.; one sister, Stella Ricks of Grenada; three grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

The Rev. George Smith and the Rev. Dan Robertson officiated at the services.

Burial was in New Bethel Baptist Church Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Morris Lindsey, Donnie Corley, Justin Ellett, Ryan Ricks, Joe Lyles and Joe Norwood.

Visitation was from 5 until 8 p.m. Sunday at Lee Funeral Home in Winona.

Memorials may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital; or the New Bethel Baptist Church Cemetery Fund.
