VIRGIL E. AHREND

OCNS - January 5, 2002 - Former resident of Pawhuska, Oklahoma and school administrator, Virgil E. Ahrend, 87, passed away Monday, December 30, 2002 in the Northeast Medical Center at Humble, Texas.

Mr. Ahrend was born September 20, 1915 in Francis, Oklahoma, the son of James W. and Mary E. (McCall) Ahrend. He was a Lieutenant Commander in the United States Navy, serving in the Pacific during World War II. June 6, 1953, he married Leota Hooker in Kaw City, Missouri and they moved to Pawhuska in 1959, where Mr. Ahrend served as Principal for the Pawhuska Elementary Schools until his retirement in the late 1970s. April 13, 1988, Leota preceded him in death and September 17, 1990, he married Donnie Marie (Griffin) Overley in Pawhuska where they continued to live until moving to Texas a few years ago.

Survivors are: His wife, Donnie Marie Ahrend of Humble, Texas; two sons, Mike Ahrend and wife, Faye, of Ada, Oklahoma and Jim Ahrend and wife, Paula, of Tulsa; a brother, Howard Ahrend; his bonus family, Don Overley and wife, Charlotte, of Humble, Texas; grandchildren, Stacey Overley Raintree, Tracey Overley Broom and husband, Gary, Darrell Vaughn and wife, Lou Ann, and Bill Jones, and wife, Linda; great grandchildren, Allison and Jennifer Vaughn, K.J. and Tyler Stanley and Justin and Kyle Jones; and a host of other family and friends.

Mr. Ahrend was preceded in death by a son, Tom Ahrend and a daughter, Barbara Jones.

Funeral services were held January 2, 2003 in the Rose Wood Funeral Home of Humble, Texas with Reverend Bruce Frank of the First Baptist Church of Humble officiating.

Graveside services were held Friday, January 3, 2003 in the Pawhuska City Cemetery with Reverend Raymond Redcorn officiating. Johnson Funeral Home
