Ray was an aircraft designer and worked at the Skunk Works in Burbank on the XP80 Shooting Star and other planes. He was an inventor and worked on Oval Stereo Speakers, Folding Tent Trailers, Street Sweepers, Dental Chairs and is credited with coining the term "Woofer". He also worked with early Magnavox. He attended Berkeley. Although handicapped by Polio he participated in crew and frequently camped in the Sierra Nevada Mountains. He was an artist who was asked to join Disney but chose an inventors life instead. His wife was Mary Amelia Wannop, a descendant of William Bradford.
