He is survived by his wife, Carol, of 50 years; two sons, Lance and Bob, whom he was so proud of the men they became; two beautiful granddaughters, Autumn and Ashley; a great little grandson, Brayden; a very special caring daughter-in-law Tina; one sister, Lois Chestnut and a brother, Dan.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Howard and Mabel Smith Deck; sisters Barbara and Peggy and brother Larry.
He retired from Joan of Arc in 1988.
Jim enjoyed doing genealogy, fill-in books, tinkering around in his son's garage which was called "grandpas hideaway."
He took up the job of keeping the Christmas lights working for Christmas in the Park in Rossville, where in return the RCO named him citizen of the year.
He would sit and go through thousands and thousands of lights until they all worked. He was his sons' "go-to dad" whenever they needed help on anything they couldn't figure out. He will be missed by all who knew and loved him.
Graveside services will be on Friday at 11 a.m. at the Rossville Cemetery. Pastor Andy Thomas will officiate. There will be no visitation. The family has placed their trust in the Wolfe Funeral Home in Rossville.
