Services for Sgt. Fay Royce Walker, 20, were held at Oak Street Baptist Church officiated by Rev. J.P. Stevenson of Montague and Rev. Johnny Barrett of Newcastle. Members of Ligon-Daniel Post 64 American Legion was in charge of military graveside services with full military honors presented by the Post.

Sgt. Walker moved to Young County near Graham with his parents in his early youth. He enlisted in the US Air Corps on 21 October 1942 and completed his training in serial gunnery school at Las Vegas, Nevada, receiving his wings on 15 February 1943 at Bockley Field in Denver, Colorado. Sgt. Walker left for overseas duty in November 1943 and served with the Air Force stationed in Italy. For gallantry in action, he was awarded the Air Force medal, Purple Heart and other citations. He was killed over Austria while on a bombing mission to Germany. He was serving as a tail gunner on a B-17 bomber.

Sgt. Walker was a former Graham high school student and a member of Oak Street Baptist Church.

Survived by his wife; his parents; two brothers - S.R. Walker, Jr and Charles B. Walker; one niece - Patsy Ann Walker.
