Son of Joseph and Eva (Kalkowski) Beran. He was raised in Ashton where he graduated from Ashton High School. In Feb. 1945, he entered the United States Army at Fort Leavenworth. He participated in the Pacific Theater and spent time in Korea where he reenlisted and served until his honorable discharge in 1947. After his discharge he was employed by Western Electric and traveled about the states of Nebraska, South Dakota and Iowa. This is where he met his wife Shirley Milbrodt and they were united in marriage on July 28, 1951 at Sioux City, Iowa. To this union were born five children, Ruth, Susan, David, Joan and Thomas. In 1983, Ivan retired from Western Electric after 35 years of service. He was a member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus, V.F.W. Post 1504, Moose Lodge, American Legion and the Eagles Club. Ivan was an avid fisherman and gardener; he had many customers for his sweet corn. He will be greatly missed by family and friends. Ivan was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Joseph, Ray and E.J.; sisters, Betty and Mary Ann and numerous brothers and sisters-in-law. His is survived by his wife, Shirley of North Platte; his children, Ruth Cox of North Platte, Susan (Tim) Keith of Lake Havasu, AZ, David (Gayle) Beran of Hershey, Joan (Dennis) Lyons of North Platte and Thomas (Elsa) Beran of Accokeek, Maryland; sisters, Katherine Bals and Phyllis Reimers; brothers and sisters-in-law, Dale and Sophie Milbrodt, Naomi and Arden Jensen and Phyllis Jones; grandchildren, Michelle (Mike) Ryan, Aaron (Christine) Keith, Brian (Sallie) Keith, Richard (Wendy) Keith, Trevor (Heather) Stringham, Kyle (Shawna) Stringham, Ashley Stringham, Katrina Beran, Wendy Lyons, Joshua Beran, Ellen Joy Delute, Ivan Beran and Delores Joan Beran; great grandchildren, Kylie Ryan, Alexandria, Victoria, Izabella and Kaylynn Stringham, Annaya Delute, Abbigail, Aaron, Kain, Trysten, Skyler, Jayde, Jacob and Jeremia Keith and numerous nephews and nieces.
