NORTHUMBERLAND -
Dorothy M. Heckert, 83, of Northumberland, passed away on Monday, Dec. 14, 2009, at RiverWoods, Lewisburg, where she had been a resident.
She was born Aug. 1, 1926, in Selinsgrove, a daughter of the late Reno E. "Skeeter" and Anna K. (Gemberling) Herrold. In September 1970, she married Leroy E. Heckert, who preceded her in death on Sept. 3, just days shy of their wedding anniversary.
Dorothy was raised on Bake Oven Hill in Selinsgrove and was a 1944 graduate of Selinsgrove High School and was a faithful attendee of the high school luncheon club.
Dorothy was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church, Northumberland.
She is survived by three children by her first marriage, Thomas Hummel, of Northumberland, Carole Hummel, of Bloomsburg, and Marianne Ferguson, of Harvey's Lake; one sister, Irene Olley, of Shamokin Dam; three grandsons; three great-grandsons; and several nephews and a niece.
She was preceded in death by one sister, Ethel Gilbert, and two brothers, Richard, who was killed in Korea in 1953, and a brother in infancy.
Friends and family may visit from 10 to noon Friday at the Joseph W. Epler Funeral Home, Northumberland, where the service will follow at noon with her pastor, the Rev. Michelle Beissel, officiating.
Interment will be in Orchard Hills Cemetery, Shamokin Dam.
