C.M. Pierce

The subject of this sketch, whose portrait accompanies it, is another of Weston's well-known citizens, at present holding the important business position of cashier of the Farmer's Bank. He is a brother of Mr. Walter M. Pierce, who is also widely known throughout the county. Mr. C.M. Pierce has been in Oregon only since 1890, but he has already made himself an indispensable factor of Weston and its interests. He was born October 11th, 1866, in Grundy county, Illinois. Until he was about 24 years of age he lived on a farm in his native county. He received his education in the district school and later entered the State Normal and at the age of 19 years he taught school for one year. In 1890 Mr. Pierce came to the West and located at Pendleton, having accepted a position as deputy county clerk under his brother, which he held for three and a half years, returning to Illinois each summer and assisting his father on the farm. After leaving the county clerk's office he, with Moorhouse & Bentley, devoted himself to insurance and brokerage business, which he gave up in a few months to accept his present position, as above stated. He still finds time, however, for fire insurance business and personally represents the Manchester Fire Insurance and the Western Assurance Company. He is also a notary public and writes a great many deeds and mortgages, etc.

Mr. Pierce is a member of the K. of P. and the Woodmen of the World. He was married to Miss Aura Loveridge of Pendleton on September 1st, 1895, to whom have been born one child, a daughter.
