JOHN ALFRED GUNZENHAUSER
John Alfred Gunzenhauser was born May 21, 1897 in Richardson County, Nebr. After an illness of only two hours, he passed away Monday forenoon, October 4, 1931, as he was being rushed to a hospital.

On July 18, 1897, he was baptized by Rev. Otto Kuhn at the Salem Reformed Church. John was early deprived of a mother's care and love, for when he was only four years of age his mother was called to her heavenly home. On May 30, 1013 he was confirmed by Rev. Julius Vollprecht. His confirmation verse was I Chron. 28:9. "And thou, my son, know thou the God of thy father, and serve him with a perfect heart and with a willing mind for the Lord searcheth all hearts, and understandeth all the imaginations of the thoughts if thou seek him, he will be found of thee, but if thou forsake him, he will cast thee off for ever." John willingly served his Heavenly Father. When he was asked to serve in the church he did it always with a willing heart. He had a love to serve and be of help to others. Last January the Salem Reformed Church elevated him to the position of Deacon. This office is fulfilled in a very able manner. It can be said that he consecrated whatever talents he had to the Lord. The same can be said of him in the community. He was known to be a good neighbor and a friend of everyone who associated with him.

He was united in marriage to Lillie Boehmer, December 8, 1920. This marriage was blessed with three children, Ivan John, Wayne Alfred and Eileen Ruth.

He is survived by his beloved wife and three children and his father Charles Gunzenhauser, four sisters, Mrs. Henry Stalder, Mrs. Edward Rohlmeier, Mrs. George Beutler, all of Humboldt, Nebr., Mrs. August Rohlmeier, Pawnee City, Nebr., one brother, Edwin of Humboldt, his uncles, John, Fred and Christ Gunzenhauser and his aunt Mrs. Martin Meister of Humboldt, Nebr. His mother preceded him in death July 3, 1901.

He always lived in Richardson County, Nebraska and was engaged in farming.

Those who mourn his sudden death are his immediate family, his many relatives, Salem Reformed congregation and the entire community.

Funeral services were held at the Salem Reformed Church Wednesday afternoon and interment was in the church cemetery. Many Bern people attended the services.
