Became a citizen in 1893, while living in Johnsonberg, Elk County, PA. Enlisted in PA National Guard and fought in the Spanish American War, in Puerto Rico. Married Catherine Behrens (1875-1950), daughter of Conrad Behrens & Rosina Spitzer, and widow of Peter Laughlin, around 1904 or 1905. At the time he died, was a firefighter for Acheson Graphite. 3 children: Maurice Michael, Catherine, Rosina. 3 step-children: Helen Catherine, Edward, and Charles Laughlin.
