John moved to Birmingham, Alabama and worked for over thirty two years in the transportation department of three railroads. He operated cafes in Birmingham for twelve years and finally was a storekeeper at the Crippled Children's Clinic and hospital for thirteen years before he became ill about a year before his death.
For many years he lived at 1001 Essex Rd. in Birmingham. He was a member of Advent Episcopal Church there and was also associated with the Lions Club . He was survived by his wife of nearly fifty years and his son.
