Clayton--Mrs. Grace Cheever, 85, Route 2, Widow of Howard P. Cheever, died at 5 this morning at the House of the Good Samaritan, Watertown, where she had been a patient since Feb. 18.

The funeral will be Saturday at 11 a.m. at the Johnson Funeral Home, Dexter, With Rev. Richmond Hutchins, pastor of Christ Episcopal Church, officiating. Spring Burial will be in DePauville Cemetery.

Calling hours at the funeral home will be Friday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Contributions may be made to the Clayton Volunteer Fire Dept. Ambulance Fund.

She is survived by four daughters, Mrs. Howard (June) Corp, Route 4,Watertown, Mrs. Murray (Hilda) Reinman, Clayton, Mrs. Hawley (Isabelle) Howard, Chaumont, and Mrs. James(Mary) Burnell, Clayton; a son Howard D. Cheever, Clayton; a sister, Mrs. Irene King, Madonna Home, Watertown; 12 grandcildren and 25 great grandchildren.

She was born on Dec. 12,1894 on Wolfe Island, the daughter of Charles and Isabelle Bamford Halliday. Her early life was spent on Wolfe Island until her family moved to Chaumont in 1908 where she attened local schools.

On Sept 16,1914 she married Howard P. Cheever in St. Paul's Episcopal Church, Brownville. After their marriage they lived on Point Peninsula where they operated a farm for about five years. From 1919 to 1968 they operated a farm outside Chaumont. Mr. Cheever also worked as a carpenter.

Mrs. Cheever moved to Clayton after her husband died on Sept 5, 1968.
