His father founded the Female Orphan School at Midway KY. He also graduated Indianapolis Law school class of 1868. He preached in Greenup, KY and then two years in Grayson Co, KY, then to Terrell, TX, then McKinney, TX, then to Austin, TX and then to Springfield Mo. He was married Oct 7, 1869 To Miss Katherine S Patterson of Lexington, KY and they were blessed with seven children, Margaret Bell wife of EN Ferguson, William Ward Pinkerton, Louis L Pinkerton, John S Pinkerton, Helen Garfield Pinkerton, Mabel Allen Pinkerton and Ella Lee Pinkerton.
