L. MATTINGLY DIES OF CANCER
George Leonard Mattingly, 71, a retired farmer and a Marion County magistrate for a number of years, died of cancer at 8:30 a.m. Monday, September 4, 1972, at Mary Immaculate Hospital. He had been ill for several months. Mr. Mattingly, a native of Marion County, made his home on North Street. His parents were George and Della Mills Mattingly. Surviving are his wife, Mary Madeline Spalding Mattingly; six sons, George A., William E., Joseph B. and James Louis Mattingly, Marion County, John Austin of Elizabethtown and the Rev. Lawrence Mattingly of Auburn, Ind.; four daughters, Mrs. Ralph Bradshaw and Sister Ruth Ann Mattingly, Louisville, Mrs. William Mills, Alexandria, Ky., and Mrs. Donnie Green, Lebanon; a sister, Mrs. Henry Boone, Lebanon; a brother, Ernest Mattingly of of Lebanon; 48 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. The funeral was conducted at 10 a.m. Wednesday at St. Augustine Church and burial was in the church cemetery. Bosley Funeral Home, where a prayer service was held at 8 p.m. Tuesday, was in charge of arrangements. Pallbearers were grandsons, Steve, Pat, Johnny and Timmy Mattingly, Terry Mills and Danny Bradshaw. Marion County magistrates served as honorary pallbearers.
