Mrs. Bessie Reynolds, 94, of Clarence, died at 7:50 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 17, 1984, in the Clarence Nursing Home where she had lived nearly three years.
Mrs. Reynolds was born in Decatur County, Iowa, Oct. 4, 1890, a daughter of Peter and Henrieta Shaffner Ellars. She married Oliver Perry Reynolds, Jan.15,1911, in Decatur, Iowa. He died May 3, 1934.
Surviving are six sons, Pete of Mission, Kansas; J. L. of San Diego, Calif.; Herschal of Saint Simon Island, Ga.; Bob of Hannibal; John H. of Nampa, Idaho; and Perry of Bonner Springs, Kansas; five daughters, Mrs. Jaunita Carothers of Laclede; Mrs. Mildred Hanlin and Mrs. Ferne Watson, both of Clarence; Mrs. Maxine Doctor of Raytown and Mrs. Geraldine Naylor of Lamoni, Iowa; a brother, Clarence Ellars of Leon, Iowa; three sisters, Mrs. Pearl Norman of New London, Iowa, Mrs. Nellie Graves of Leon, Iowa, and Mrs. Ruth Crees of Deacon Field, Iowa; 41 grandchildren; 43 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by two daughters, Mrs. Dorothy Morgan and Mrs. Ollie Hirrlinger; three brothers and four sisters.
Mrs. Reynolds lived on a farm northeast of Clarence for many years before moving to Clarence. She was a member of the Bethlehem United Methodist Church, south of Anabel.
Visitation was held at the Greening-Eagan-Hayes Funeral Home in Clarence on Friday evening, Oct. 19, 1984. Services were Saturday, Oct. 20, 1984, at 2 p.m. at the Bethlehem United Methodist Church conducted by the Rev. Bruce Edwards and the Rev. William A. Knowles. Burial was in the church cemetery.
Music was furnished by Mrs. Lawrence Rice and Mrs. Merrett Reid Jr. Pallbearers were Denver Barr, LaVerle Barr, David Barr, David Melson, Trenneth Barton and Roy Dale Barton. *******
The Family Of Bessie Reynolds Wishes to express their special thanks to the Clarence Nursing Home, Betty Barratt and staff and staff and Dr. Hull for the years of care; to the Clarence United Methodist Church for dinner served before services; to Rev. Bruce Edwards, Rev. William Knowles and to all that had a part in the final services. To those that sent flowers, food, cards and for visits following the loss of our beloved one, we will forever be appreciative.
