Born and raised in Keytesville, Missouri, Elva was one of four children born to Greenberry and Effie Littleton. Her father was a tobacco farmer and she grew up near the banks of the Chariton river on the outskirts of Keytesville. She lost her mother to tuberculosis when she was just 16. She lived for a brief time with her uncle Jesse Littleton while her mother was sick. When the war broke out, Elva was working at a suitcase factory that was later converted to an ammunition plant. She first married William Thorp Davis in 1943 but their marriage was annulled shortly after. She later met the love of her life, Richard Beach, and they were married on December 30, 1944. They settled in Raytown, Missouri, raising four children there. Once their children were grown, they relocated to Hamilton and then to Bates City. Elva worked as a waitress and later as staff for the Kansas City Royals baseball stadium with her husband Richard. They enjoyed 53 years of marriage before Richard preceded her in death in 1998. She was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother who was deeply loved and will be forever missed.
