Elmer Boyd "Scotty" Oshel, 93, of 127 Harrison Avenue, Waynesboro, PA was pronounced dead Sunday afternoon, February 7, 2010, in his home. Death was unexpected and attributed to heart failure. He was born October 31, 1916 in Topeka, Kansas; he was the son of the late Boyd and Gwendolyn (Anno) Oshel. He lived his early life in Kansas. Mr. Oshel graduated from Seaman High School in Topeka with the class of 1935. He served in the United States Army during World War II. He was a member of the composite school unit, a branch of Army Intelligence, at Fort Ritchie, Maryland for four years. Scotty and his wife of over 66 years, Mrs. Betty (Frazee) Oshel, were married December 13, 1943 in Hagerstown, MD. They moved to the present residence in 1948. Mrs. Oshel died October 8, 2009. Prior to the military, he worked as a refrigeration engineer for Beatrice Creamery Company in Topeka for several years. Then following his discharge from the military, he worked as a mechanic at Kohler Nash Car Dealership and J.S. Snowberger & Sons Oldsmobile both of Waynesboro. Prior to retiring in 1979 he worked for O.C. Hawbaker and J.W. Miller Texaco both of Waynesboro, for 30 years. He was a member of Evangelical Lutheran Church of Waynesboro, Garrett County Historical Society of Oakland, MD and the national AARP.
Mr. Oshel enjoyed reading, gardening, collecting antiques and watching Baltimore Orioles baseball.
He is survived by a daughter, Roxanne Oshel Martin, husband David of Waynesboro, five grandchildren, Beth Frakes, Matthew Martin, Andrew Zeger, Jeff Martin and Nathaniel Martin, six great-grandchildren and the seventh to arrive in April 2010, a sister, Christina Girvin of Liberty, Missouri, one brother, Clifford Oshel of Topeka, and a number of nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by two daughters, infant Elizabeth Oshel and Laura Zeger who died June 3, 1991, two brothers, Eugene Oshel and Frank Oshel and three sisters, Lahoma, Eva and Norene.

Services will be held at 1:00 P.M. Friday, February 12, 2010 in Grove-Bowersox Funeral Home, Waynesboro with Rev. Dennis Beaver officiating. Burial will be in Green Hill Cemetery, Waynesboro, with military graveside services conducted by the Honor Guard of Charles Nitterhouse V.F.W. Post #1599 of Chambersburg. .
