John C. Alderson, 74 of 1112 E.Division street Wabash Employee for 40 years died in the Wabash hospital at 3:15 am. today. Although he had worked last week he had been in poor health for the past six months. He had been seriously ill in the hospital since Sunday.
Mr. Alderson worked for the Wabash slightly over a year when he was made foreman of the building crew which position he had held since. He came to Decatur from Springfield 27 years ago. On July 1 he would have been pensioned for his long service. He was active in railroad organizations and was president of the Brotherhood of Maintenance of Way employees and a member of the Wabash veterans organization. He was a member of the Third United Brethren church.
He was born in Sadorus, Sept 26, 1863 and was married to Annie W. Berney in Springfield, Oct.,22, 1893. Besides his wife he leaves eight children, Mrs. Marie Higgins, Chicago, Charles Alderson, Stewardson, Mrs. Annie Miller, St.Louis, Mrs. Edith Butts, Mrs. Carl Stern and John, William and Mason Alderson all of Decatur. He also leaves three sisters, Mrs. Joseph May and Mrs.Ada Leiter, both of Champaign and Mrs. Etta Towell of Peoria.
Funeral services will be held in the Moran & Sons chapel at 2 pm Saturday. Burial will be in the Greenwood cemetery. The body will be taken to the family residence Wednesday noon.
