Joan H. Shales, 71, of Elgin passed away Sunday, Apr. 13, 2008 at Provena St. Joseph Hospital, Elgin. She was born Apr. 24, 1936 in St. Charles, the daughter of John and Madeline Schultz. She had been a resident of Elgin for 52 years.

Surviving are her husband, Glen E. Shales whom she married on Aug. 27, 1955; three children, Steve (Sara) Shales of Elgin, Lori (Mike) Zabran of Elgin and Troy (Lori) Shales of Elgin; four grandchildren, Tiffany, Caitlyn, Kirstie and Madison; two sisters, Lil Feltgen of Geneva, Ill. and Fran Arthur of Bemidji, Minn.

She was preceded in death by her parents; one brother, Tony Schultz; and one sister, Betty Christianson.

Memorial services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, Apr. 19 at Laird Funeral Home, Elgin. Burial will be private. Visitation will be held on Saturday from 12:00 noon until the time of services. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to the Elgin Police Dept. DARE program.
