******************
Ruth Ann Galaway was the daughter of John Joseph Galaway (1800-1867) and Leah Smith (1805-1900)

It is believed that after her older sister, Elizabeth Galaway, possibly died as the result of complications from childbirth about 1861, Ruth Ann stepped in and helped out with the young Price & McCall children, but of course that is all just speculation.

We do know that James Price was married to Rachel Jones 20 Sep 1838, Jackson Co, Ohio and she died in 1859 leaving him with 10 children ranging in ages from Gilbert, 20 to the infant Rachel born the day before she died.

James then married Elizabeth McCall, the widow of Shaphat (?) McCall (with 3 small children) on 08 Jan o1860, Gallia Co, Ohio. No record has been found with either McCall's death or burial or that of Elizabeth. It is surmised that she is buried with McCall. She does not appear to be buried with James, who is buried with his first wife. James and Elizabeth had a daughter Sarah E. born 19 Mar 1861 and it is possible that Elizabeth died about that time.

Or at least she died before James married for a third time to Ruth Ann Galaway, younger sister of Elizabeth on 25 May 1862, Gallia Co, Ohio. These dates are all found in county records as well as the marriages in the Price Bible. Unfortunately the deaths are not recorded.

James & Ruth had 4 children

Leah "Lillie" Maria Price Pruden (1863-1959)
James Wesley Price (1864-1949)
Vina Belle Price Covertson (1866-1939)
Thomas Galaway Price (1868-1953)

The family dynamics must have been interesting considering that Ruth was younger than the 3 oldest Price children! James had a total of 15 children, 10 by Rachel, 1 by Elizabeth and 4 by Ruth Ann. Ruth Ann was the only wife who outlived James, who died in 1883.

It is also unclear about when she became a widow from Charles Steward. He filed for an invalid pension in 1890 and in the 1900 census Ruth is listed as married and Vina Belle & Thomas are living with her, but Charles is not. In the 1910 census and subsequent census records she is listed as a widow. But the pension application has the last number unclear - 191? - so that isn't very helpful.
