Mrs. Estella McLain Hasbrooke, 76, died at her Fortuna home Sunday morning after an illness of nearly one year.
She was born January 28, 1884, in Iowa where she lived until the death of her husband, W. Burton Hasbrooke, in 1936. A charter member and past president of the Rio Dell Methodist Woman's Society of Christian Service, she had long been a member of the Fortuna WSCS, Carolina Circle, and is a past member of the Humboldt Travel Club. For many years in Iowa she was a church officer, Sunday school superintendent and director of community plays and youth activities.
She is survived by four daughters, Mrs. Blanche Knapp, Scotia, Mrs. Sybil Lewis, Fortuna, Mrs. Opal Lafferty, San Leandro and Mrs. Cloyce Martin, Eureka; son Owen Hasbrooke, San Diego; 15 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a daughter, Mrs. Gladys Harrington, of Green Bay, Wisconsin, in 1949.
Funeral services were conducted in the Chapel of Goble's Fortuna Mortuary Tuesday at 2 p.m., with the Rev. Ray Magnuson of the Fortuna Methodist Church officiating. Final memorial services and inurnment are to be held in LeMars, Iowa.
Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society at 1102 Fifth Street, Eureka.
Honorary pallbearers were Helge Paulson, Glyndon Smith, Ted Sesna, Thomas Schmidt, Sid Clifton and Frank Barnes.
