His professional career started in Kalamazoo with Pyrofax Gas. He was then transferred by Pyrofax to Wooster, Ohio, to be a regional manager. After 8 years in Ohio, he joined Allied Chemical to be a regional director in Minneapolis for Union Texas Petroleum's Texas division. In 1972, he was transferred to Houston, TX. Ed became Senior Vice President of Marketing and then Senior VP of International Business for UTP.
Ed's international experience gave a great interest in traveling. He was so proud that he and Peggy had traveled to all seven continents. It was also because of his work in international business that he found his mother in Holland after being separated for 45 years. After retirement he moved to Weston Lakes in Fulshear, where he found many wonderful friends. Ed was a caring, fun-loving Christian man who adores his family. He is survived by his wife, Peggy, daughter Judith Van Dyke Jefferson and husband, Richard and their children J.R. and Brett, and son Adrian William (Bill) Van Dyke and wife, Kathy, and their children Katie and Cris and his wife, Danielle. He is also survived by a great-grandson, Cole Vidrine, and a sister, Pia van der Wel in Rotterdam.
A private burial service will be held in Fulshear Cemetery and a memorial service will be held at 12:00 noon, Tuesday, March 3, 2009, officiated by Dr. Duane Brooks, at Tallowood Baptist Church, 555 Tallowood Dr., Houston. A reception will follow in Fellowship Hall.
In lieu of flowers, it is requested that donations in his memory be made to Brookwood Community, 1752 FM 489, Brookshire, TX 77423, to Tallowood Baptist Church Building Funf, 555 Tallowood Dr., Houston, TX. or the charity of your choice.
