John Abuhl was born February 7, 1865, to Mr. and Mrs. Jacob Abhul, at Elkhart, Indiana, and died at his home near Elkhart, Iowa, July 21, aged 64 years, 5 months and 14 days.
When six weeks old his parents moved to Jasper county, Iowa, and in 1871 they moved to Polk county, Iowa, where he has resided these many years. In his youth and early manhood, he was a member of the Reformed church but under the ministry of Brother Dugan, united with the Christian church. In 1901, he was married to Miss Allie Welch, who has been a faithful and devoted companion during those twenty-eight years.
Mr. Abuhl's place in the church and community life has been of the highest; his advice and friendship has been eagerly sought by men of all walks of life, ever calm, practical, and loveable. His very life has been an example of the teachings of that Lord and Saviour whom he has loved and worshipped for many years, and the effect of his sojourn in the community and elsewhere will long be felt by the citizens. The loss of this noble man is inestimable but we will always be glad that we knew him and had the joy of his friendship.
His sickness was sudden and short and death was almost inevitable. He sleeps now to suffer no more pain or anguish; and leaves to mourn his departure, a beloved wife, five sisters and one brother and a host of relatives and friends.
