STANFORD — Dewey "Gordon" Carter, 78, of Stanford died Monday, Feb. 8, 2010, at Ephraim McDowell Regional Medical Center in Danville

Born June 18, 1931, in Lincoln County, he was a son of the late Denver and Virginia Reed Carter. He was retired from General Motors in Dayton, Ohio, after 40 years of service, and a member of McKinney Christian Church.

Survivors include a very special friend, Ethel Louise Miracle; three children, Theresa Serio (Charles) of Austin, Texas, Barry Carter of West Alexandra, Ohio, and Becky Kay Carter of West Melton, Ohio; three sisters, Winford Ann Carpenter of Danville, Hilda Jane Whalen of Lexington, Ky., and Charlotte Faye Self of Stamping Ground, Ky.; five grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and a great-great-grandson.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 44 years, Mary Irene Conner Carter; four brothers, George D. Carter, Novis D. "Clondy" Carter, Huite L. Carter and Lowell M. Carter.

The funeral service will be 1 p.m. Friday at Spurlin Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Jason Coulter officiating. Burial will be in Buffalo Springs Cemetery. Casketbearers will be grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
