David married his 1st wife, Mildred Slaydon (born March 2, 1807 in Toby Creek, VA, died 1858) on November 25, 1826, in Blair's District, Pittsylvania, Co. Virginia; she was the daughter of Thomas Slaydon and Rachel Slaydon. He then moved his family to Dickson County, Tennessee. In 1850 David sold his farm in Tennessee and moved his family by wagon to Williamson County, Texas, where they owned and operated a farm and store. His wife Mildred died in 1858. In 1865 he moved his family to Houston County, Texas. Indians still occupied parts of Texas in 1836 (Also, there is a story he may have had an illegitimate child with a slave).
David's 2nd wife Ellender Elizabeth Brashear (McMillan) (May 31, 1830 Decaturville, Tennessee-February 14, 1906 Houston, Texas, buried in Waller-Gossett-Brashears Cemetery, Houston County, TX) he married on November 14, 1861 in Georgetown, Williams County, Texas. Ellender's parents were Alfred Absalom Brashear & Eleanor Ross Brashear.
