Mrs. Wm. Howell, Local Resident, Called By Death

Mrs. Lizzie C. Howell, 81, well known resident of Oregon City, where she had continuously resided for the past 73 years, died at the Oregon City hospital Thursday, following an extended illness. She was the wife of William H. Howell
Mrs. Howell, daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. John Bitzer, early Oregon City residents, was born in Santa Clara, Calif., October 24, 1860, and came to Oregon City with her parents, when she was eight years of age. She married Mr. Howell in this city March 22, 1883.
Mrs. Howell, for many years active member of Willamette Rebekah Lodge, was past noble grand; served as president of the Rebekah Assembly of Oregon for two years; was treasurer of the Odd Fellow's home in Portland for over 25 years.
Mr. and Mrs. Howell had the distinction of being the only couple of Willamette Rebekah lodge to celebrate their golden wedding anniversary. The 50th wedding anniversary was observed by Willamette Rebekah lodge with a large event, when 250 people attended.
Surviving are the husband; a son, William B. Howell, assistant postmaster of Oregon City; a sister, Mrs. Emma Richards, Portland; besides a granddaughter, Mrs. Robert Colvis (Betty Howell), Portland, and niece, Mrs. Robert H. Liddell, (Leah Richards), Portland.
Funeral service will be held at Atkinson Memorial Congregational church Saturday afternoon at 2 o'clock, with Dr. E. P. Borden, pastor, officiating.
The body is at the Holman and Hankins mortuary.
