Bernard was born in Westphalia, Germany, the son of Theodore Kennebeck. He married Mary Ann, who preceded him in death. He was an unemployed laborer, and has resided in St. Louis for the past 75 years. On September 21, 1944, Bernard fell out of bed at City Hospital # 1. He fractured his skull which caused a subdural hemorrhage of the brain. He died the next day at age 97.
