Patrick Breen was born in Ireland in 1847 and died at Yankton, SD March 23, 1936 at the age of 89 years.
He came with his parents to this country in 1854, when he was 7 years of age, settling in Cedar County, Iowa. When a young man of 24, he moved to Adair, Iowa, in 1871. Here he was united in marriage to Fanny Grow in 1874 at Fountainell, Iowa. In 1898 the Breen family moved to Armour, SD where they have lived ever since.
Mrs. Breen preceded her husband in death 24 years ago. The eleven children born to Mr. and Mrs. Breen are all living. They are; Mrs. Henry Kellogg of Letcher, SD, Mike Breen of Ipswich, SD, Frank Breen of Armour, SD George Breen of Armour, SD, Tom Breen of Hot Springs, SD; Mrs. Hattie Stage, Mitchell, Nebr.; Rob Breen, Artesian, SD; Mrs. Katie Dickman, Armour, SD; Mrs. Nellie Wilson, Mitchell, SD and Bill Breen Armour, SD. All being present for the funeral.
He is also survived by 60 grandchildren and 29 great grandchildren.
He was confirmed in the Roman Catholic Church in his youth.
Funeral services were held from the Rokke Funeral Home Armour, SD, Thursday morning, March 26, 1936 with the Rev. A. R. Boone in charge. The old hymns "Rock of Ages" "What a Friend We Have in Jesus" and "Nearer My God to Thee" were sung by a mixed quartette. Interment was made in the Armour Cemetery.
