Mildred and Granville DeBarr, former residents of Morgan County, Ohio, celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary on June 3, 1994. The couple was married at Sutton, WV on June 3, 1944. The couple owned the Frank Borden farm near Morganville for many years. In November 1968, they sold their farm and moved to Westerville, Ohio to be near her son.
Mrs. DeBarr is the daughter of the late Lee and Lucy Alkire Smith of Cedarville, WV. She attended Glenville Normal College and graduated from Ohio University in 1960. While in Morgan County, she taught school at Mountville, and later at Homer-Union School.
Mr. DeBarr is the son of the late John and Nancy DeBarr of near Weston, WV. He worked for the Firestone Tire and Rubber Company in Akron, and is now a retired farmer.
When in Morgan County, they were active members of the Malta United Methodist Church. she was a member of the American Association of University Women, and helped organize the Morgan County Retired Teachers group.
After moving to Wellsville, they became members of the Salinesville United Methodist Church.
From a former marriage, Mrs. DeBarr has one son, Dennis Kyle Baker and one daughter-in-law, Lou Ann Baker. One son, Charles, lost his life in a bombing mission in World War II, making her a member of the Gold Star Mothers. The family also consists of two granddaughters, Vicki and Maria.
