Although my great great grandmother's given name was Petronila Melcher, her headstone says "Ellen" and "Nellie" which were her nicknames. Nellie was born in Oberweier, Rastatt, Baden, Germany in 1833 and settled in Mt. Pleasant, Henry Co., Iowa at age 20. She met my gg grandfather John Yeager when he was living in Mt. Pleasant and training as a stone cutter while working for her brother Peter Melcher who was a marble dealer.
