Doris E. Pelnar, age 91, of 1122 Hawthorne St., Two Rivers, died Saturday morning, Feb. 13, 2010, at River's Bend Health & Rehabilitation Center, Manitowoc.
She was born on Oct. 25, 1918, in Green Bay, daughter of the late John and Eva (Lesperance) Kenville. Doris was a graduate of Washington High School in Two Rivers with the class of 1936. She then obtained her nursing assistant certification from Two Rivers Vocational School. On July 30, 1940, she married Alger Pelnar at St. Luke Catholic Church in Two Rivers. The ceremony was officiated by the Rev. Alvin Auer. Alger preceded Doris in death on Aug. 3, 1992. She was employed as a nursing secretary at the Two Rivers Community Hospital for more than 15 years.
Survivors include two daughters and sons-in-law: Polly and James Schaus, Manitowoc; Sally and Todd Eesley, Two Rivers; one son and daughter-in-law: John and Jill Pelnar Sr., Howards Grove; one sister: Lorraine Pavlowich, Manitowoc; one sister-in-law: Gladys Kenville, Two Rivers; nine grandchildren: Victoria Seehafer, Manitowoc; Lisa Schaus, Manitowoc; Kelly (Kory) Deering, Valders; Christine (Jeff) Havlichek, Suamico; Kay (Scott) Fuqua, Bedford, Texas; John (Bobbi) Pelnar, Jr., Manitowoc; Derek (Rebecca) Pelnar, Two Rivers; Patrick (Rachel) Pelnar, Two Rivers; Amber Buchmann, Anoka, Minn.; Brooke Buchmann, Howards Grove; and 18 great-grandchildren. Nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends also survive. She was also preceded in death by one infant brother: Maynard; two brothers: Leonard and John; three sisters and brothers-in-law: Agnes and Adam Nebel, Lucille and Cyril Koprowski, and Julia and Ray Levanetz; one brother-in-law: Alvin Pavlowich; and two sisters-in-law: Florence Kenville; and her special friend and sister-in-law: Elzena Phalen.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 16, 2010, at St. Peter the Fisherman Catholic Church in Two Rivers. Officiating at the Mass of Christian Burial will be the Rev. William O'Brien, with burial to follow at Holy Cross Cemetery, Two Rivers.
The family will greet relatives and friends at the Klein and Stangel Funeral Home, Two Rivers, from 5 to 7 p.m. on Monday, Feb. 15, 2010. A prayer service will conclude the visitation at 7 p.m., led by Rev. William O'Brien. The visitation will continue on Tuesday, Feb. 16, 2010, at the Klein and Stangel Funeral Home from 9 a.m. until the time of the morning prayer service at 10 a.m.
The family wishes to thank the nursing staff and nursing aids at River's Bend Health & Rehabilitation Center for the compassionate care given to Doris, and also to anyone else who touched her life.
