Roger Edwin Laughlin, son of George and Sinah Laughlin, last survivor of his family, was born in Clayton County, Illinois May 8, 1861, and passed away at the Armstrong Nursing home at Bedford, Iowa Feb. 20, 1945, after a long illness, at the age of 83 years, 9 months and 12 days.
He ,with his mother and two sisters came to Nodaway County, Mo. in 1889. He was married to Cora Ingels on Sept. 13, 1891. To this union ten children were born; one daughter preceding him in death. He lived in Taylor County, Iowa 34 years.He united with the Methodist church at the age of 20 years.
He is survived by his wife and nine children: Elmer, Creston, Iowa; Lewis, Dexter, Oregon; Blanch Watkins, Tarkio, Mo.; Ruth Smith, Mountain Grove, Mo.; Jennie Evans, Gravity, Iowa; John, Riverton, Wyoming; Lawrence, in the armed forced in the South Pacific; Nina Dink, Lenox, Iowa; and Robb, in the armed forces now home from the Pacific. Twenty-four grandchildren, thirteen great grandchildren, and other relatives and friends.
Funeral services were held Friday at two p.m. at the Barber Funeral Home, the Rev. J. H. Machlan in charge. Burial was in the cemetery at Bedford.
